WHO: Uncage & Reunite Families Coalition(URFC) and LULAC of Arizona

WHAT: Press Conference to demand that Gov. Doug Ducey stop innocent people as political pawns by busing migrants to Democrat-led cities. Transporting families, including children, across state lines under false pretenses is not only morally reprehensible but it may also violate numerous state, federal, and international laws.

WHEN: September 29, 2022, 10 to 11 a.m.

WHERE: Arizona State Capitol, Rose Garden

WHY: In May, GOV. Doug Ducey started sending asylum seekers on chartered buses from Arizona to the nation’s capital. This program has cost the state of Arizona taxpayers $3 million dollars in three months with an additional $15 million in the budget slated to be used to continue the program. An investigation must be conducted to find out what taxpayer dollars are being used for this stunt, whether any federal taxpayer dollars are being used improperly and whether any state, federal or international laws are being violated.

Although the Governor claims that migrants being bused are doing so on a complete voluntary basis, there are allegations that refugees/asylees have been told they had no choice but to get on the bus with no idea where they were going. For many of the asylum seekers their intended destination was California and yet they were bused to the other side of the country.

Each refugee/asylee was given a document from federal authorities to appear at a certain time and place to report their presence and get their next court date. By sending the refugees/asylees to the wrong states, they might then miss their date and be deported. Impeding their ability to appear in court at the designated time may be an obstruction of justice.

URFC also strongly urges that the Phoenix Office Federal Bureau of Investigation, Office of Inspector General and U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland of the Department of Justice open an investigation into possible criminal or civil violations of federal law.
